Intitulé « Construction et transmission des savoirs à travers les langues », ce colloque propose une réflexion sur le rôle du multilinguisme dans la construction d’un enseignement supérieur plus inclusif, plus équitable et davantage tourné vers les défis de demain.

Dans un contexte marqué par les transformations numériques, l’internationalisation croissante, le développement de l’intelligence artificielle et le renforcement des missions sociétales des universités, le colloque entend examiner la place des langues dans l’enseignement, la recherche, la communication scientifique, la communication professionnelle et la circulation des connaissances à travers les frontières linguistiques et culturelles.

Les chercheuses et chercheurs, ainsi que les praticiennes et praticiens, sont invités à soumettre une proposition de communication de 15 à 20 minutes en français ou en anglais. Les contributions pourront notamment porter sur le multilinguisme et la justice linguistique, les politiques linguistiques dans l’enseignement supérieur, l’édition scientifique multilingue, la communication scientifique, la communication professionnelle, la transformation numérique, l’intelligence artificielle ou encore les enjeux du développement durable dans des contextes multilingues.

Les résumés (300 mots maximum), accompagnés d’une brève notice biographique, doivent être envoyés avant le 1er septembre 2026.

This year’s conference, entitled “Communicating Knowledge Across Languages: Multilingualism, Science Communication and Professional Engagement in Higher Education”, will explore the role of multilingualism in shaping more inclusive, equitable and future-oriented higher education systems.

Against a backdrop of profound transformations in higher education – including digitalisation, internationalisation, artificial intelligence and increasing societal engagement – the conference aims to foster dialogue on how languages contribute to teaching, research, science communication, professional communication and knowledge exchange across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Researchers, practitioners, policymakers and institutional leaders are invited to submit proposals for 15-20 minute presentations in English or French. Contributions may address a wide range of topics, including multilingualism and linguistic justice, language policies in higher education, multilingual publishing, science communication, professional communication, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and multilingual approaches to sustainability and social responsibility.

Abstracts (maximum 300 words), together with a short biographical note, should be submitted by 1 September 2026.

The event, hosted at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Brescia, will bring together scholars, researchers, and experts from major European universities to examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping linguistic and communicative competencies in both professional contexts and international academic training.

Topics will include:

• The evolving role of AI in linguistic preparation
• Emerging communicative skills essential for future professionals
• The impact of AI on university-level language education
• Language policies across European universities, student mobility, attraction of international students, and the development of bilingual or multilingual programs

Coordinated by Prof. Maria Teresa Zanola, the conference provides a key opportunity to understand which linguistic and communicative competencies will become essential in the coming years and how institutions and territories can prepare.

This event marks an important moment for reflecting on the future of language education within a rapidly changing multilingual landscape.

Summary

This reflection paper explores the use and impact of Large Language Models (LLMs) in multi- and interlingual communication and mediation. It aims to raise awareness among users, both non-experts and professionals, as well as policymakers, regarding:

• how LLMs “communicate,” how their processes differ from human communication, and the implications of these differences when generative AI is used for translation and interpreting (Section 1);
• the current and future impact of AI on translation and interpreting professions, including communication quality, workflows, job tasks, and job satisfaction (Section 2);
• potential unintended side effects that must be carefully considered alongside AI’s benefits (Section 3);
• whether and how AI should be integrated into translation and interpreting education and training, both in formal academic programs for future professionals and in continuing professional development (Section 4).

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Luca Lantero, Associate Professor at the European Law & Governance School (ELGS) and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance (IHELG), part of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).

Dr. Lantero also serves as General Director of CIMEA, Italy’s national center for academic recognition and mobility. With extensive expertise in international education systems, the regulation of bogus diplomas and accreditation mills, and the digitalization of academic recognition—including the use of blockchain and AI—he is a leading voice in shaping the future of higher education. He currently holds high-level roles within the European Higher Education Areaand Council of Europe initiatives.

This promises to be an insightful and thought-provoking session for anyone interested in the evolving landscape of higher education.
