1. Task Force on the The Role of Languages in the European Higher Education Area

The Task Force, chaired by Karen M. Lauridsen (CEL/ELC) and comprising representatives of  the European University Association (EUA), the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE), the European Association of Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the European Students Union (ESU), had its first meeting in Brussels on 21 March. A second meeting is planned for early October.

2. Four Special Interest Groups launched

At the meeting held at Universitatea Babeş-Bolyai, in Cluj-Napoca, on 19-20 June, the CEL/ELC Board decided to launch four Special Interest Groups (SIGs):

SIG 1: Multilingual and multicultural strategies and competences for intercultural professions

SIG 2: Validation and recognition of informal and non-formal language learning

SIG 3: The integration of multilingualism and multiculturalism in teacher education

SIG 4: Developing different models for language policies in Higher Education

A call for expressions of interest will soon be published on the CEL/ELC website. Participation in the SIGs is open to CEL/ELC members as well as to external partners.

3. Brussels, 4-5 December 2014 - CEL/ELC Forum: Which Language Policy for Europe

The 2014 CEL/ELC Forum will be held in Brussels, at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven - Campus Brussels (HUB), on 4-5 December 2014. It will focus on issues emerging from the work of the Task Force on the The Role of Languages in the European Higher Education Area (Day One) and on the areas to be covered by the four SIGs (Day Two). Speakers will include representatives of international organisations and associations, and of higher education institutions. A draft programme and the registration form will soon be available on the CEL/ELC website.
